OSTEOPATHY

Introducing Marian Fennessy

Osteopathy is a holistic approach to health care which uses manual assessment and treatment to support the body’s self-healing capabilities. Osteopaths use a variety of hands-on techniques, including stretching, massage, gentle pressure, and joint mobilization. This therapy improves mobility, reduces pain, and restores proper function and posture. It is also helpful with headaches, sciatica, sports injuries, and postural problems.

The key principles of Osteopathy:

  1. The Body as a Dynamic Unit: Osteopathy views the body as an integrated whole, where each part influences the others.

  2. The Body’s Self-Healing Ability: It recognizes the body’s inherent capacity to heal itself and facilitates this process.

  3. Interrelation of Structure and Function: Osteopathy recognizes that the body’s structure (bones, muscles, tissues) and function (physiological processes) are interconnected and changes in one can affect the other.

Treatment Methods:

Osteopathic practitioners use various hands-on techniques to restore balance and function, including:

  • Soft Tissue Manipulation: Techniques targeting muscles, connective tissues, and fluids to alleviate tension and improve mobility

  • Joint Mobilization: Gentle movements applied to joints to restore their natural range of motion.

  • Craniosacral Therapy: Delicate manipulations of the skull and spine to address cranial and central nervous system issues.

  • Visceral Manipulation: Gentle techniques aimed at improving the function and mobility of internal organs.

These methods aim to enhance the body’s structural integrity, promote efficient movement, and support overall health.
